I loved this book and found it a compelling read. It takes place during World War 2 which I've always found an interesting period in which to set a story. Each chapter is written from the point of view of one of the family members, during one day which changes the course of their life, and reveals as much about the other family members as it does about them. It's a great way to do well rounded characters, as each character is seen from several points of view. Fortunately Ms Jordan has the skill ...more

A story about family, love & loss, spanning about 70 years. Each chapter is told by a different family member or connection &, surprisingly, this worked for me. I didn't like it at first but once I got through the first three I was really looking forward to the next person's tale. It's not told in a linear progression, it starts in 1939 & ends roughly at the same time but with chapters interspersed from later generations of the family. Kip Westaway, Stanzi, Jack Husting, Charlotte, Francis, Anna ...more

Such a unique book! Interlinking stories told from the POV of nine characters. Some stories reminded me of the stories my mother told me about growing up in inner city Melbourne. A great description of Richmond and the surrounding suburbs and the way of life back then.

There is tragedy and tears and laughter all wound into one amazing book!

Nine days is about one family spanning seventy years, from 1939 until present day. Kip Westaway has had to leave school and get a job to help support his family after his Father’s Day. His twin Francis remains at school, and his sister Connie has had to leave Art School and get a job. We hear from Kip’s daughters and grandson, as well as his mother and sister about their lives living in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond. An enjoyable read.
