In 1926, Tom Sherbourne and his wife Isabel are the only inhabitants of Janus Rock, a remote island off the coast of Western Australia. Tom mans the light there and the two of them live a peaceful life, rarely ever stepping foot back onto the mainland.

Tom Sherbourne has come through the hell of WW1 and is looking to find the answers to some serious questions. To do this he decides to become a light keeper. He finds his way to the small Western Australian town of Partageuse and then out to tend to the light on Janus rock, an island off the coast. What a beautifully written book. The story intertwines between the lives of the main characters and you stand on the sidelines as you see what they wanted to achieve and how it all goes wrong and sometimes you can't stop fate. Read the full review at OurBookClub.
