''Out past the shallows, past the sandy-bottomed bays, comes the dark water - black and cold and roaring.''
Utterly heart-rending read. So glad Favel Parrett tempered the dark times with beautiful moments of empathy and compassion. I enjoy books where the setting becomes a character and Favel's lyrical prose highlights the beauty and danger of the Tasmanian forest and coastal landscape.

Gone straight to the top of my favourite reads of the year. Beautifully written, heart wrenching, brutal story that keeps you on the edge. The voices of Harry and Miles, one young and hopeful, the older, bares the scars of losing a Mum and living with a violent, angry father play against each other as you wait for more tragedy to hit these boys but hoping that it doesn't.
