This was an unusual reading experience for me because I read about Edith’s epic journey from privation in pre-WW2 Western Australia through England to Armenia, and then attempting to escape TO Aleppo in Syria to safety!

I’m writing this as Syria is in desperate straits, bleeding refugees from its borders whenever they can find a way out. Aleppo is a place people are fleeing from.

I was also reading Quicksilver by Nicolas Rothwell, which is six essays about (among other things) the connections

What goes around, comes around, and then goes around again.

If you're looking for something "spectacular", then this isn't the book for you. However if you're looking for a nice, solid read withouth unnecessary filling - then definitely read this!

I was suspicious of this novel to the very last word on the very last page and then I sighed and closed the book and loved it.

A thoroughly enjoyable tale of a young Australian woman's search for the father of her son and her own destiny. Spanning both world wars to 1954, the book delivers a deeply felt love of place, from the Australian bush to the mountains of Armenia.
