Almost a month later... I finally finished it. About time.

Like someone else reviewed, this isn't the sort of book you go to when you want to read something brilliant. It is a beach read, something light and fluffy after you've tackled War and Peace. Maybe not even then.

The plot starts off extremely slow, then moves on too quickly. The romance - quick and unbelievable (reminds me slightly of Bella and Edward - there's absolutely no basis for it and they dive right in).

In a bid to read more YA novels, I've picked this one up (along with Book #2 Pretties) as I've heard so much good word about it. It was good fun to read, highly unbelievable and very many liberties were made. For example, Tally thought David was a weird name? She hasn't heard it before and yet Tally and Shay sounded normal? Major problem with One-Click-Purchasing on Kindle-on-iPad -> Devastatingly easy to purchase Bad-Books One-Would-Ordinarily-Not-Read (EVEN for YA). Period.

I really tried with this series because my librarian thought I'd like it but I just really could not get into it. The concepts were interesting but there was just something lacking. Maybe when I'm older I'll try it again but for now the uglies series will just be another series in the school library. ...more
