Given that this story deals with such issues as teen sex, suicide and child abuse, it is a deceptively simple read - which is no doubt Condon's strength and why he's so highly acclaimed.

I actually just skimmed part of this and feel a bit guilty about giving a rating based on that. Unlike some of the other reviewers of this book, I didn't find it boring, but I do find it uncomfortable. I feel like I want to know more about what happens, but I don't want to read about it. Strange.

A fantastic, quick read, a bit of a trip back in time (set in the 60's). The book title had me intrigued, & the story had me experiencing all types of emotions - especially coming from 16 year old Neil's POV & experiences.
