This is one of the most moving historical novels I've found. Three girls are attending boarding school when World War I begins. Their brothers are sent to the front, and the three look for ways to contribute to the war effort themselves.

As an Australian teenager I hear all about the sacrafices that were made in both world wars - but I have also heard of the brutality of it. However Jackie French unveils a hidden part of this much talked of world and my goodness it is heartrending and beautiful.
So Jackie French I thank you for writing a book so utterly beautiful.
