The Quickie Review

Mercy mixes an intriguing romance with a suspenseful mystery in which Mercy, our heroine, attempts to not only discover the fate of a missing girl but also more about herself, specifically who she is exactly and why she’s been exiled from heaven and forced to return repeatedly to Earth. With utterly beautiful descriptive prose and a unique take on the angel genre, Mercy by Rebecca Lim definitely stands out from the pack of other angel themed books that are currently available.

I liked it, especially the end which was quite dramatic. There were some parts in the middle however which dragged ona bit, maybe I just wasn't in the mood (flu effect). I liked the concept of the characters being involved in a classical choir, this was something different. I will proabaly read the next in the series, as I think there is a lot that can be developed from the character. ...more

Loved it! Why have I not read this Aussie author before?? Lim's writing is gorgeous; dark, despairing and very very 'moreish'.

Mercy is a page-turning blend of mystery, suspense, paranormal, and a whisper of romance. The reader shares Mercy's journey as she searches for answers to her past life, present host life and her imminent future. While you know from the cover art and synopsis that Mercy is an exiled angel, it's not specifically mentioned in the novel but I loved that, the feeling of uncer

It was simply hard to put down. The moment I read the first page, I couldn't put it down. Everything was easy to understand. The references to Rebecca Lim's own past education absolutely excited me-Presbyterian. However, that wasn't the only reason I picked this novel up.

What I liked will be noted in 1), 2), 3), 4) ! YAY! :D

1) What initially attracted me to this novel: the COVER

This book revolves around an angel, Mercy who goes into people's bodies. The book begins with Mercy waking up in Carmen Zapposta's body, a choir singer. They're on the way to Paradise, a small town where the choir members from different schools meet up to sing together in a yearly concert. Carmen aka Mercy is boarding with a family, The Daley's, a family who had lost their own child, Lauren, two years ago. Lauren was also a choir singer, an outstanding talent that the Teachers loved and have dub ...more

This book was okay, there were parts of it that I lost interest, and I was not a huge fan of the characters.

The thing for me was the ending. It was predictable, you knew it was going to end like that from the beginning, but I still want to know what happens next. Those kinds of ending always pull me in, there is a certain attraction to that that kind of cliff-hanger. So for that reason, I think I might read the next book in the series.
