Despite the rise of climate scepticism, it’s probably fair to say that the scientific community has reached consensus about global climate change. We’re warming up and that warming is the result of greenhouse gasses, especially carbon dioxide. Whether or not it’s happening is no longer the question. I've been a big fan of Flannery's since The Future Eaters and found Here On Earth to be of a similar temperament to all his previous volumes, simultaneously detailed in science/history whilst optimistic of our ability to confront challenges.
Sometimes the prose of this book wafted toward peace, love and mung beans more than I remember any of Tim's previous books doing. Despite this, my hope is that this tome receives wide readership, acknowledgement and acceptance. ...more

I really enjoyed the scope of this book and selected it as my December 2010 Book Pick of the Month at www.ourbookclub.net.au. The book lets you believe that things could change if we really made an effort. Flannery is also able to cut through a lot of the detail to provide a high level synopsis of some of the main points to the climate change debate.
