Thoroughly enjoyed this apocalyptic road-trip novel. I know the areas that the novel is set, like the back of my hand, and could easily picture the places as I listened to the compelling narrative.
A really interesting take on the genre and I loved the strong female leads.
My first of Inga Simpson's and I really need to get to the two others of hers that I have on my shelves at home.

This is a tricky book to review for me because it's both well written and totally outside what I'd normally read.
Set in a bushfire-ridden, post-pandemic Australia, the story is based on the idea that something ("they") is chasing down and killing everyone in it's path, worldwide. This very non-specific aspect of the book - well, I really disliked it. Way too sci-fi for me.

I could pick this book apart with all the elements that were less than perfect for me - e.g. the fear monsters could have been better explained, the nature of Rachel's mental illness was skimmed over and its triggering incident introduced too late, there could have been more action and less description of long bush walks, Rachel's choices and actions with baby Isaiah were highly questionable to the point where I nearly lost all sympathy for her towards the end - but ultimately I found it an enjo
