One of my all-time favourite books - it has everything I love in books, plus some really extraordinary day fairytales. An absolute must-read

This book worked backwards from the present into the past. We know where the characters ended up, but we don't know how they got there. It kept me reading.
There are several characters in the book who are very cruel and greedy, and quite one-dimensional. I found it difficult in the case of one person in particular, to work out why she did what she did. What were her motives.(Cannot give too much away).
Also, I was able to guess how the main mystery eventuated, much to my surprise. Not usually good ...more

A nice read - split into different eras where a family secret tries to be resurrected but seemed to want to stay buried until the end.

This is one of those books where you want to slowly read it, savour it for as long as possible. But, then you also want to read it quickly so you can find out what happens. It has everything family secrets and mysteries ghosts, romance, death and a forgotten garden. It keeps you guessing and engrossed. Each piece of the puzzle is revealed little by little until it all comes together in the very end.
