One day, people all over America just... DISAPPEARED.
Hundreds of millions of people poof-ed out of existence and no one knew how/why. There were left little pockets in the country and, of course, those Americans who were overseas at the time of The Disappearance. Started reading "After America" before realising it was the second book in a trilogy so got this one instead. Interestingly many reviewers criticised " I am Pilgrim" for its American jingoism, but I found this far worse. The characters' attitudes towards other groups, particularly the French. would have brought a smile to the faces of Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and the other Neocon war mongers but I just found it irritating.
