This first book is an introduction to the people, creatures & quest of the continent of Eileanan. A fascinating & harsh beginning as the main characters - Meghan, Isabeau, Iseult, Bachaiche, Jorge, Tomas, Maya - become known to us. Just flicking through the book and the torture scene made me ill. It demonstrated everything despicable.
