In the early 1800’s William Thornhill is convicted of theft in London and sent to New South Wales for the term of his natural life. Accompanied by his wife Sal and their children he arrives in a country he doesn’t understand and with no way of going back to England. He sees it as another prison, albeit without bars.

Really not my kinda book. A friend was adamant I had to read it because she found it life changing, and it's on those '100 books you must read' lists, so I figured I'd give it a go even though it was outside of my usual reading fare.

I wasn't a fan of the writing style, and that made it hard for me to engage with the story. The premise and the storyline was interesting, and it is definitely a story worth telling, but yeah. Just large chunks of text with description and dialogue within the blocks.
