What Members Thought

I am in more than one book club and thus expected to read books of many genres and degrees of excellence. Once in a while I crave a masterpiece and wasn't finding these among my fellow book clubbers. I noticed that no one had ever suggested a J.M. Coetzee novel. Maybe because he is just downright too depressing. My 1st Coetzee read, and I wasn't disappointed. It a fairly short book, but by no means an easy read. On the contrary, this powerful, shocking book made me loathe and then sympathise with the main character, and then even pity him.
The frankness of David's actions is in no way sensored, and the lack of remorse on his part made me question whether I wanted to read on without knowing whether remorse would come or not.
