No matter what Peter Carey writes, there’s always a playful extravagance in his work, coupled with pleasurable, fast paced plot and linguistic gorgeousness. Alas the second book in a row I have read but couldn't finish. I have liked Peter Carey's books in the past, but could not connect with any of the characters, the style of writing or the genre it was trying to fit in.

I listened to this as an audio book, I think if I had attempted to read the written word I wouldn't have finished the book at all.

I think I just don't appreciate Peter Carey's style of writing.
