There I did it, I rounded it up to 5stars.
I was leaning towards 4 stars, however it is set where I live.
The emotional attachment to the real landmarks mentioned (Burran Junction, Goondiwindi, Bourke all are within cooee of me ) pulled me right into the story. I kept trying to decipher the imagined places and where they actually sit on the map.

A wonderful book that looks into the early part of the 1900's with Irish immigrants and the forth coming war. A lovely tale and certainly my often re read list of books has it on top.

One of the best books I have read. Beautifully written and a marvellous story. Not a bad TV series either. An Australian classic.
I remember absolutely loving this saga. I want to read it again now that I'm in Australia.

The characters in this book are written so sympathetically, and with so much love that it wouldn't be surprising to meet them. The descriptions of the setting are also beautifully done and the story engrossing. A lovely read.
