This novella set in the Cormac Reilly series (loosely) is pretty good. Has all you could want from a fast pace crime story with mystery, suspense, and a whodunit element which stays strong throughout. I really enjoyed the emphasis on the sisters in Carrie as a young police officer and her sister Aifric, a lawyer just finding her feet. Personally, I'd rather see more stories focusing on these two rather than Cormac, such was the dynamic and potential to hold down a book in their own right.

I enjoyed this very much. I have yet to read any of the Cormac Reilly novels but it made no difference, it might even give it a little nuance when I finally do get around to the The Ruin. Carrie & Aifric Ryan have uphill battles beginning their chosen careers, systemic sexism proving hard to wade through in police & legal circles, but they're both determined to show their worth. Thinking about it, I'm not quite sure when this was set: I had thought it must be mid-1980s, but it must be early 2000

Really enjoyed this audio book, set 10 years prior to the Ruin. Two sisters are living and working through the criminal justice system in Dublin. Carrie Ryan is a constable in the Dublin Police Force and her sister, Aifric, is a recently qualified barrister, representing Robert Collins, accused of killing his girlfriend, Laura O’Donnell. Carrie is aware that helping her sister with this case could cost her career, but she is determined to help as she believes Robert is innocent.
