Born as a cursed girl destined to die on the night of her eleventh birthday, Morrigan Crow was resigned to the fact that it was her fault whenever things went wrong. But as the hours crept toward midnight, Morrigan was rescued – whisked away in an unusual vehicle by a total stranger. Jupiter North was her saviour, and patron, and their arrival in Nevermoor, a magical place which had Morrigan enthralled, felt like a dream.

Whilst I don't typically read all that much YA and never really got into Harry Potter, I was intrigued by the premise of Nevermoor and for the most part, I wasn't let down.

Smoosh Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins together and you will have a taste of Nevermoor. One displaced child, plus one saviour, plus a motley of gregarious characters (mix of human and fantastical), plus a quest or two and magical setting surely equals an engaging read.

Narrator of the audio version, Gemma Whelan, phenomenal. I enjoyed the book more than if I had read it thanks to Gemma. She obviously had fun reading it aloud - the character voices were delightful.

I bought this book as a gift for my 8yo. I don’t particularly know what an advance reader is for his age but he’s in the top reading group in his class so I thought this might be readable for him. Nevertheless, he was intimidated by all the words and NO illustrations which makes it a monster of a book for him. I wanted to read it too so we read it together aloud. Honestly, I would probably inhale this book in a single sitting (or two) because it was really so much fun! A light-hearted read fille ...more

For Morrigan Crow life is going to be short as it is guaranteed she will not reach her 12th birthday. Morrigan is considered a curse child and is blamed for everything that goes wrong. She spends most of her young life writing letters of apology for making someone’s life a misery and trying not to be a nuisance to her father. Yet, there is something special about Morrigan. On the eve of her death, an enigmatic red headed man named Jupiter North arrives and offers Morrigan a chance to live. There ...more
