Set in the 70s this is a tale of two brothers who excel at cricket. As kids they played daily in their back yard, giving no quarter, as dedicated as Don Bradman, playing the same shots repeatedly.
Darren has two talents: cricket and trouble. We first meet him when he is bound and gagged in the boot of a car with a bullet through his knee. While he's imprisoned in this way, we discover by degrees how he came to be there.

This book is superbly written and a great read -even though, as I know nothing about cricket, much of the terminology and the descriptions of the games were completely lost on me. The relationship between the brothers is beautifully portrayed, all the characters are very real, there's suspense and tension and a twist at the end, not to mention an ending I didn't expect.
