Set in a small Australian country town, The Dry is a tense, compelling and atmospheric murder mystery, as well as an astonishingly assured debut from English-born novelist Jane Harper. It won the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for an Unpublished Manuscript in 2015, and has since been sold in more than 20 territories, and – wait for it – has been optioned for a film by Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea’s production company, Pacific Standard. It deserves all its acclaim.

So I somehow managed to miss all the hype when The Dry came out and was winning a bunch of awards. It's only now that it's on the Dymocks Top 100 List that it's caught my eye. Admittedly, I'm not really a big thriller reader - occasionally one will catch my eye but it's not really a genre I seek out. I tend to find them a bit predictable, and really, lacking any thrill.
The Dry is nothing like those other thrillers.
It's a thriller that actually thrills.

Extremely well crafted debut novel which captures the desperation and insular characters of a small Australian town gripped by the hopelessness of drought and the unspeakable crime of murder.

Have heard so many rave reviews about this one and it didn't disappoint.
One of the downsides of being an author is being able to pick the plot twists and the bad guys and I picked both early in this one, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment as the story unfolded.
