Stuck at home with her parents and sister, expected to embroider and marry the right man, Evelyn Lockhart longed for more. Her dreams of becoming a doctor had been frowned upon by her family; she was forbidden to study in university and become one of the nation’s first women doctors – to deliver babies and care for their mothers no less. But Evie was nothing if not determined and if estranging her family and the man she was expected to marry to follow her dreams was what it took, then so be it.

Natasha Lester is an Australian writer based in Perth, and A Kiss from Mr Fitzgerald is her first foray into historical fiction, after two contemporary tales published by Fremantle Press.
I was irresistibly drawn to her book by its gorgeous cover and the promise of its title, A Kiss From Mr Fitzgerald. I love books set in the 1920s, which was such a heady period of glamour and new freedoms. Brilliant. Absolutely adored every page of this book showcasing the difficulties of one woman's attempt to become a doctor in a time when everyone expected her to make a good marriage to a wealthy man and pop out some heirs. It has everything - an amazing main character/heroine, a struggle that the reader can get behind and an appealing romance with depth and a few twists and turns.

It's lucky I ended up reading this while my husband was on night shifts, as once I started, I couldn't put it down and stayed up late two nights in a row to finish it. A Kiss From Mr Fitzgerald captivated me from page one. Evie is a character who is immediately approachable and engaging. Right from the start, I felt I knew her and wanted her to succeed. There were some good twists along the way. A couple of times, I thought I knew what was going to happen, but then something changed, taking the

A truly captivating book that I could not put down!! I loved the story line within this book. It tells the story of Evie who has lived a somewhat privileged life in New York but always felt there was something more than afternoon tea parties, dinners and balls. After coming across a young woman giving birth by a lake, she felt compelled to help her. Unfortunately the woman dies during the process, but the baby survives. This event drives Evie want to become a female Obstetrician, which in the 19

I discovered Natasha Lesters blog a couple of years ago and love hearing about her books and her writing. The pictures she had drawn up for the costumes for A Kiss from Mr Fitzgerald were gorgeous. But until now I hadn't read any of her books.
Evie is a woman after my own heart, chasing her dreams and doing whatever she can to make them come true. She also happens to fall in love with a man she doesn't expect to, and it's not love at first sight either. I also love the fact that Evie had to work ...more

In the turbulent 1920's women had little prospects but to become a kept lady in society so Evie follows her dream after a dramatic incident. Full of the glamour of the 20's America with Gatsby like feel and the illusive Mr Fitzgerald. Certainly worth a read. Strangely innovative wome are in my current reading books.

A Kiss for Mr Fitzgerald is the third book I've read by Natasha Lester, and with it I have to admit I've found a new favourite author.
It's the story of Evie Lockhart, who dreams of being an obstetrician in 1920s New York. It's unheard of for the time, and every step she takes in that direction is a challenge.
Thomas Whitman is set to be the president of Whitman's bank, and wants to support Evie to achieve her dreams.
