Contacting his old friends, including his brother Jimmy for help, Jack had no idea if they would meet with him. But they all owed him a debt; admittedly it was a long standing debt, but Jack hoped they would show up. And show up they did; their planning went well – it seemed that everything would fall into place. But little did they know that young boys Trent and Max were underneath the building they were in, listening…

When Detective Montgomery Steel was faced with a person telling him and other detectives about a planned robbery on Melbourne Cup day, they were sceptical. But there were elements of what they were told that rang true. Short on man-power they did the best they could under the circumstances; after all, they were sure to catch the perpetrators with the information they were given – weren’t they? What could possibly go wrong?

Double Take by Aussie author Kendall Talbot was an extremely different take on criminals, a crime and the consequences of what was done when it seemed there were no other options. I felt for Jack; understood his desire to do everything he possibly could for Candice. Even knowing it couldn’t possibly work, I wondered how the author was going to add the intrigue needed. And one of the characters! Oh my goodness – what a piece of work! Double Take was a thoroughly enjoyable crime novel with a difference, and one which I have no hesitation in recommending.
