Her introduction as nurse in the Emergency Department was abrupt and severe. The accident which involved all the staff at the little hospital took most of the night to sort out – Mackenzie was exhausted when she finally entered the house she was to call home for the next little while. And when she bumped into her friend’s brother in the local supermarket a week later, things began to sizzle. Nathan Kennedy had been working in the mines for a lot of years – drifting, earning money, not sure what to do with his life. But when he saw Mackenzie he was smitten…

Just short of the three month conclusion to her contract, Mackenzie was seriously considering extending it. She loved the work, had made quite a number of friends who made her feel very welcome, and of course Nathan was in the vicinity. But suddenly she was called home – a dire emergency had her rushing back to her family. What would happen in the future for Mackenzie? Would she and Nathan remain a couple? She didn’t do long distance relationships...

Emergency Response by Aussie author Nicki Edwards is the second by this author. After a slow start, the pace picked up and moved along nicely. I enjoyed the aspects of the Emergency Department and the cases that came through the doors – some days flat out, others quiet. But Mackenzie annoyed me – in fact I felt like shaking her on occasion! She was portrayed as an insecure, self-centred and selfish young woman and just when I would think she was “growing up” she’d have another spasm! Nathan’s character was great, and the country people; the friendliness and “we’ve got your back” attitude was typical Australian. I loved the descriptions of the Australian Outback as well – that was beautiful. Would I recommend Emergency Response? Definitely!
