There were things that annoyed me about this book, but I gave it 4 stars because it really hooked me in and it was responsible for many late nights as I had to keep reading to find out (a) who actually got murdered, (this is not revealed until very near the end, although I had a fair idea who it would be) and (b) who murdered him/her, which was a total surprise, but to the author's credit, it didn't detract from the plausibility of the narrative.

It has been a while since I read a Fiction book without aliens or humans with superpower or police/detective/lawyer doing procedural investigation work.
This book was on Goodreads Choice Award nomination, and was one of Amazon's Best Book of the Month for 2014, so I thought why not.
Given the premise ('normal' Fiction book spelled out 'drama' to me), I was expecting this to be a 'normal' rom-com story. I found the book to be so much more!

Just when I thought Jo-Jo Meyers was my favorite female contemporary author ( Who overtook Jennifer Weiner - who replaced Emily Giffin - who superseded Kristin Hannah) along comes this cracker of a book. It's quirky, contemporary, genuine laugh out loud storytelling. The suspense isn't of the time bomb ticking, sweat beading in discreet places, car chases variety - it's more intrigue. Interesting characters provide most of the entertainment. The books themes are friendship, forgiveness and accep

I had this book on my radar for a while, but I tended to put it into the "chick lit" category and left it there for when I was in the mood for a lighter, more superficial reading. But I've been reading good reviews about the TV series lately and it made me pretty curious. It was still a light reading, but very smart and very entertaining. The book starts with a trivia night and a death, and everything goes back from there. Who's the criminal, what are his/her motifs and, especially, who's the de

This book is set around the day-to-day dramas of a kindergarten with parents and kids forming friendships, alliances and rivalries. I don't know if we were supposed to compare the maturity of the 2 groups but I don't think it's a spoiler when I tell you the children came out looking more mature than the parents. Unfortunately kids and family dramas don't generally grab me and this was no exception. I just didn't care about who was going to which party and why.

Someone described it in Goodreads as heavy chick lit and this definitely defines it. After being a school teacher, I could definitely see the way the parents behaved happening in a more well-to-do suburb. Intriguing plot development and twist endings I didn't see coming at all. Great read and another stay up late and finish the book night instead of going to sleep at a sensible hour...

This didn't feel like reading 400+ pages as it sure was a page-turner kind of book. Liane Moriarty built up the characters so well, it felt like her narration was very engaging. And that plot twist, I. DID. NOT. SEE. THAT. COMING.
Or maybe I am just purely naive.
I'll definitely add this to my "Books To Cure Your Reading Slump" list. ...more

All three stars are for the last few jaw dropping chapters. And I give myself 5 stars for enduring the banality of the rest of the book to get to the cream.
