Shelleyrae at Book'd Out

Three months after her dad became A Dead Thing, Millie Bird's mother takes her to a department store and asks her to wait for her. Clutching her backpack stuffed with frozen juice boxes, texta's, tea light candles, a Just In Case glass jar and her Book of Dead Things, Millie waits, huddled under a rack of Ginormous Women's Underwear, for her mother's gold shoes to come click clacking back.

This is another debut novel from an exciting new Australian author - Brooke Davis. This was recommended to me by a friend who gave it 5 stars and after reading it I now know why. Its a very quirky & different book to read, and the three main characters - Just Millie, Karl the Touch Typist and Agatha Pantha will make you laugh and cry.

You see Just Millie was abandoned in an Australian department store by her mother just after her father passes away thats why she calls herself Captain Funeral who

How do you get old without letting sadness become everything?

I think this is the question my brain has been trying to articulate the past few months and to have it in black & white in front of me is quite mind-boggling because I'm not quite there yet. I'm not ready! But when we'll never be ready...

Lost and Found is a wonderful debut novel about three lost and lonely individuals who find love and companionship through their connection to one another. The writing is entertaining and original and the storyline will carry you along. A sweet story of loss and hope.

A perfect holiday read - light, charming and enjoyable. The whole thing teeters pretty close to twee, but sometimes you need something a bit cutesy in your life.

Heartachingly, beautifully written, this story of three souls who are brought together in the most improbable circumstances makes you stop and savour the beauty of story, and the wonder of words. Brooke Davis makes the ordinary extraordinary, and leaves you with combinations of words that make you just stop and drink them in.

Read it to: grieve, to feel hopeful, to feel a sense of shared loss and shared happiness.
