The fury that coursed through young Adam Vander as he realized he was finally able to face up to his father and BEAT him was intense. After the years of beatings, of degradation and humiliation, he was determined that this time he would show his father that it would end. But the upheaval to his emotions as his father lay cowering; cowering as Adam himself had done so many times at the hands of his dominating father caused so much confusion that Adam wasn’t sure what to do.

Through the Cracks is a concise, darkly disturbing read, it's also a story of survival.
I was blown away last year by Honey Brown's psychological thriller, Dark Horse and I've been waiting with bated breath for her new book to pop up on NetGalley. I was fortunate (and in a rush) ... grabbed it without even giving the synopsis a glance, total faith that Through the Cracks wouldn't disappoint. Readers have mentioned that the synopsis gave too much away so I took the liberty of paring it d ...more

Firstly: DON'T READ THE PUBLISHER'S BLURB! It's spoilericious.
I just can't put a Honey Brown book down. As my partner found over family dinner last night, yesterday I just kept on gobbling this book until I was done.
Through the Cracks is sort of an inverted thriller: it starts with the turning of the tables, the escape. An increasingly strong teenage Adam fights back against his abuser, and makes his escape into a bewildering, threatening wider world. Adam's escape from the locked backroom, led ...more

Oh how I loved Honey Brown's new book which totally engaged me from the first page.
This book is well written, the characters are completely believable, the story flows and the ending is satisfying.
My only gripe is that I am feeling bereft having finished it - keep thinking about it and finding it difficult to settle into another book.
