This is my first review.
This story is narrated by the friend of a young man who caught a baby, that fell from a window, in his hat. "It's True!". The Mother of the baby rewards the hero with a crown, which he spent on a railway ride, got lost in London, landed on a ship and worked as a cabin boy. Eventually he becomes captain of his own ship and in time he visits home again. He spots a woman and falls in love with her smiling face - that woman being the baby he once saved. This book highlights the knock on effects and consequences of actions in life with the eventual outcome in this case of 'the friend' marrying the woman he saved as a baby and starting their own family. The narration is simple, action packed and colourful with Napoleonesque period clothing which may aid a classroom discussion on history and the fashion of that era. This may be useful for children aged 5 to 9 as this appears too basic for the older age groups.
