SPOILER WARNING:

When my sister Caroline told me she was reading this book, I said I wanted to read it as soon as she was done. Well, she finished it, and gave it to me. I was slow reading it at first, but last night and the night before I couldn't put it down.

Throughout the book, I couldn't understand why Sage put her trust in this jerk's hands. He was incredibly transphobic/cissexist and wasn't willing to research to become less ignorant (and by "research" I mean check out the stories of trans* SPOILER WARNING:

Throughout the book, I couldn't understand why Sage put her trust in this jerk's hands. He was incredibly transphobic/cissexist and wasn't willing to research to become less ignorant (and by "research" I mean check out the stories of trans* people other than Sage). After the fraternity house party, I wanted to like Logan, but I was afraid he'd go back to being a jerk face. I was right. Once Laura called him, he made it all about him once again. "WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF POOR ME!111" "THEY'LL ALL THINK I'M GAAAAY!111" blah blah blah. And I'm just sitting here thinking "dude, not everything's all about you. You're not gay for liking a girl."

I really didn't like the repetition of "the most isolated place I knew" every single time he went to the cemetery. We get it, that's the most isolated place you know.

Even towards the end, he's still talking about a "real" girl and "a girl like Sage". It just made me want to throw the book out the window while yelling at it Kingsley-style.... and then go pick it up because I wasn't done reading it yet.

So Tammi calls Logan because Sage is in the bathroom and she can't open the door. I think, "Why do you want him to help you? He's a jerk." Nonetheless, they take her to the hospital together, resulting in her father beating up Logan, thinking he did it.

Later on, he goes to visit Sage at the nuthouse (she's there because she said she was going to kill herself). He seems like he's really changed.

It's funny because throughout the book I WANT her to never talk to that jerk again, but in the end, I'm like "noo. They CAN'T never talk again."

I think this book teaches that people CAN change for the ones they truly love and sometimes you have to let go of someone you love and think about what's best for you (thinking about what's best for you and only thinking about you are 2 different things though; don't put them together). I would highly recommend this book. ...more
