Disorienting, dreamlike, at times hilarious, at times meditative, this is a beautifully crafted novel with unforgettable characters, especially the protagonist Father Damien who appears in some of Erdrich's earlier novels. It is the logics of myth and dream that structure The Last Report; this gives the characters passionate, yet contemplative, larger-than-life personae.
