Wow! This book is so realistic and, for me, a real tear-jerking read. I teach high school and I have always told my students that if a book can draw you in, make you live vicariously through a character, and somehow help you with life experiences, then it's a good book. This book did that for me and so much more.
Still Alice was informative about early-onset Alzheimer disease and its subsequent progressive loss of everything we take for granted: linguistic ability, thought processes, simply recog Wow! Still Alice was informative about early-onset Alzheimer disease and its subsequent progressive loss of everything we take for granted: linguistic ability, thought processes, simply recognizing people we love. I don't want to give away too much, but I LOVED this book.
I am going to live everyday as though it is my last, because it could be my last the way I currently know and live it. I am going to read every book I want while I have the ability, memorize every little nuance of my children's and grandchildren's faces, and perhaps write things in a journal to jog my memory for later days (and probably for today and tomorrow)!

UPDATE: Re-read I was reminded why I loved this book so much! I could say DITTO to my above post, and I do; however, that was 12 years ago so now I might add that my memory is definitely not as good as it was in 2012. One thing I didn't mention in my previous review is that my dad was an avid reader. He had a stroke in August 2007 and was in a rehab until he died in March 2013, so at the time of my first review Dad was still in the rehab but he could no longer read. He loved being read to, but he never picked up a book again. So the timing of reading this book in 2012 hit me hard! I hurt for my father and felt to a degree how hard it would be to not be able to read or manipulate the English language anymore. As of today I have 5 grown children, 22 full blood grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The one thing I pray never happens to me is that I forget who any of them are as Alice did in her book. If anything, this second reading had more of an impact on me. I'm now retired from teaching and I listen to audiobooks often in an effort to improve my auditory skills in the (hopefully not) event that I do ever lose the ability to read. ...more

Absolutely positively LOVED this book! I read a variety of books and while I really like or love some books, I try to save the 5 star rating for ones that truly touch me. This book did just that. I didn't "read" this book but rather listened to the audiobook. I was attached to the story from the start and many times found myself not wanting to turn my car off until I had gone just a little bit further in the story. Made me feel so sad but so appreciative of myself, my mind, my family. I feel very grateful for my life, and not many books are capable of making me feel that way.
