What Members Thought
A distinctive voice doesn't necessarily mean a great writer. My dissatisfaction with Kitchen Confidential surprised me because I am such a fan of No Reservations and of Bourdain's voice on that show, which is basically a series of creative nonfiction essays on different locales and cultures. Maybe it has to do with the length. Maybe I can take an hour of Bourdain on TV, but not multiples hours at a time of his voice. Hmmmm, as someone who owns a restaurant and has been in the industry for over 20 years, I had a hard time with this one. I was very excited to read it when I began, but that quickly faded for me, and by the middle of the book, I found myself skimming and even skipping pages because of all the verbal nonsense that was being spouted. Mr Bourdain wanted to show the "real side" of the industry and while there are parts that certainly did, there were a lot of parts that also was meant to show readers

I love Anthony Bourdain's style... that I'll say what I damn well want to and offer no apologies. I loved watching his travel food series and miss him. Listening to him read this book was pure magic. He definitely lived a vivid life.
