I finished this one yesterday, August 15th.
Even though it began with common events in the life of a married couple, it intrigued me and I 'turned the pages', one after another as the story ran its course.

Murakami really is an amazing writer. The sections on the Manchurian War will live with me always.
First Line: "When the phone rang I was in the kitchen, boiling a potful of spaghetti and whistling along with an FM broadcast of the overture to Rossini's The Thieving Magpie, which has to be the perfect music for cooking pasta."
