I FINALLY READ IT.
Honestly, I'm mostly just relieved I can take it off my TBR forever now.
I liked it, I found the creative writing style very interesting. The book is narrated by Death, and that sets The Book Thief apart from the other hundreds of young adult coming-of-age-in-World-War-II books out there.
The ending though... the ending felt emotionally manipulative to me. It felt like a cliche Deeply Heartbreaking Ending that was prioritizing crushing the reader over wrapping the plot up nicely ...more

This is a wonderful book. For me, it's one of those books I think everybody should read. It's just beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It was a journey. You read about the characters and you watched what happened in front of you. It was as if I was just standing next to them, simply watching. I think it's wonderful the way I felt as though I was there with them. This to me means that Markus Zusak is a great author. I still cannot believe that this is a debut novel!
