Sigh. Frankly, I don't understand how a person over a certain age can enjoy this book. Yes, I get that it is fiction and is fantasy for some readers, but this book was so poorly written and realized that I just don't understand all of its praise. I've read better erotic romances than this and I'm sure other readers have too.
At minimum, the story would have benefited from the use of a thesaurus. Must the author use "foil packet" all the freaking time? Must Anastasia constantly "peak" at Christian ...more

I noticed that this book has very Freudian/psychoanalytic undertones. Namely with Ana and her inner goddess and subconscious being her id and superego ... anyway ... it's erotic and there's more erotic than story and the end is enthralling.
Also, one of my best ways to tell that a book is good or not is whether it makes me feel some emotion and I DEFINITELY felt emotions throughout this book!

This was Twilight...just Edward & Bella, with whips and sadomasochism. The author apparently doesn't have a thesaurus but she uses the word "tenacious" about 80 times. To emulate a character like Grey...to try & make him desirable, I just don't understand it. Yes, he's damaged, but he's a scarily controlling individual who used a cell phone to stalk a woman...follows her on vacation etc. He's emotionally and physically abusive. People are granted restraining orders for less than this, and to fan

I can certianly see why there is so much hype around this book as I too devoured it. But, its not the best thing i've read. Mr. Grey's personality did frusterate me quite a bit but I have carried on to the next book to see if anything further about his past is revealed. Happy reading :)
