There were things I loved about this book and things I did not. I found it difficult to read the chapters narrated by the maids because of the broken English and grammar. With that said, I think Stockett played heavily into some racial stereotypes. And the idea that an educated white woman is the "hero" of the story by risking her personal and professional life by chronicling the maids' stories was a bit frustrating.

I couldn't put this book down, even though I had actually watched the movie first. The perspectives, characters, and language were so engaging and well written. I am rating with 4 stars solely because of the ending (or lack thereof). Otherwise, I loved it.
