What Members Thought
I was already hooked on the show, but the book offers so much more in terms of backstory and character development (obviously, I know). For someone like me who saw the HBO series first, reading the books are well worth the enriched view of Westeros.
This doorstop of a book was far better than I expected. I started with trepidation know the nature of the television program, but this was far less explicit that what I had seen and much more involving. Even though it is a very long book, it doesn't delve into endless descriptions the way the likes of Tolkien does - something is always happening, a plot is always being hatched. Definitely continuing with the series for now, it ended on a very intriguing note.

I tried reading it and didn't get past the first chapter. More accurately, I fell asleep while trying to get through the first chapter. Thank heavens for the excerpt reading option on Kindle. Caveat: I might give it another go ... some day. If I do then I'll come back and give a much more thorough review but until then ... this book is in my not-so-good-read pile.
