What Members Thought

I listened the audiobook version.
It was quite interesting.. A story about people living in a small town called Pagford, where everyone seems to be connected to one another somehow. There's no such thing as an anonymity in any gossips in town since everyone knows everyone. So much drama. It's an adult book, true, but it involved quite a big number of teenage characters (which have big roles in the book).
Anyway, the story was a bit dark.
Just a bit spoiler: The story started and ended with death. ...more

This book took me a long time to get into, there was a lot of character development and plot building that I found rather boring. But by 100-150 pages, the story started to thicken and I became interested in the cases of the characters (in particular the young ones) and I started to care for them. The ending was rather shocking, I didn't expect that at all but the great thing about J.K. Rowling is that she never shies from the truth.

I had heard mixed reviews about this book, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It is definitely NOT Harry Potter. I really liked it, I thought it was an interesting read, but felt it could have been far shorter. At some point, I just thought things were unnecessarily dragging, and that is why I'd give it about 3.5/4 stars.

Wow--Harry Potter who??? It is difficult to believe the same person wrote this "definitely adult" novel with amazingly multidimensional--and let's face it--jacked up characters. Her writing is so clear--I actually felt like I was outside the window spying on these troubled individuals.
