Alright. I think I should say that this is one of those books that make you think of things. That completely consumes you. sucks you in. I can't say it's because of the plot, because there isn't any! It deals with lots of issues. and no, not in that way that makes you feel like you are being preached by a know-it all person. It throws things at your face and leaves you to figure out whatever you want. homosexuality.Rape. suicide.violence.love. discovering who you are. family. friendship. SIMPLE ...more

Firstly, I have to mention something I really appreciated when I read the book: that we can literally see Charlie's progress in writing. In one of his first letters he writes about an essay he didn't get a good grade on, further explaining what his teacher advised him to change. Its hard to say how i feel about this book. on one hand the writing style drove me nuts. the sentences are short and choppy, like a conversation, which isn't that annoying on its own. its more what the kid is saying and how he's saying it. it was an interesting read, like nothing i've really read before. the characters were interesting. despite the annoying sentences, you really get a clear depiction of who every character is. they are very real, like they could be someone you actually know and

Where to start... This book was so touching. I completely fell in love with the main Character, Charlie. He is so innocent. Deeply sensitive. A bit misunderstood. Very intelligent. Easily influenced. He wants to please. Never wants to be a bother for anyone. He forgets himself too often. He loves deeply. And often feel lonely. He is a wallflower. He understands, without asking questions. He sees things that others won't. He notice everything and will feel everyone's pain.

This was beautiful and heart breaking.
To those who think there were too many “serious teen issues” forced into the book, congratulations. You obviously had a better experience in high school than many and assume, because you had an easy go of it, everyone else had the same experience.
To those who think they can no longer like the book because a movie was made, and the movie was popular, and was promoted by MTV, and thereby commercialized the book, congratulations. You are Mary Elizabeth.
