Alright. I think I should say that this is one of those books that make you think of things. That completely consumes you. sucks you in. I can't say it's because of the plot, because there isn't any! It deals with lots of issues. and no, not in that way that makes you feel like you are being preached by a know-it all person. It throws things at your face and leaves you to figure out whatever you want. homosexuality.Rape. suicide.violence.love. discovering who you are. family. friendship. SIMPLE

Firstly, I have to mention something I really appreciated when I read the book: that we can literally see Charlie's progress in writing. This was beautiful and heart breaking.

To those who think there were too many “serious teen issues” forced into the book, congratulations. You obviously had a better experience in high school than many and assume, because you had an easy go of it, everyone else had the same experience.

To those who think they can no longer like the book because a movie was made, and the movie was popular, and was promoted by MTV, and thereby commercialized the book, congratulations. You are Mary Elizabeth.

Beautifullllll. I'm not the biggest fan of epistolary style novels, but this was amazing. I just want to take Charlie and put him in my pocket. I loved his friendship with Patrick and Sam and how his English teacher takes him under his wing and gives him books to read. I loved how he discovers music and fun and love and how he grows confidence and develops as a person. AH READ IT. I know this book is everywhere on tumblr, but it deserves to be so. ...more
