Ahhh!! I love Meg Cabot books!!

I've been a fan of hers since a day about 10 years ago, and my husband and I at the time went on a secondhand bookstore adventure, and spent the day training and busing our way around Brisbane, hunting down books. I saw The Guy Next Door on a shelf, and it was like love at first sight! You know that feeling when you pick up a book and just KNOW you're going to fall for it's wonders?? We trudged home after this purchase, and I went straight to bed, ignoring the husb Ahhh!! I love Meg Cabot books!!

I was hooked!

Over the years I feel like i've spent half my life reading Meg Cabot books...and loved every minute of it! I reach for her books whenever life deals a blow, cause they just make me feel comforted. Happy. Like I'm safe! Even though I feel like SUCH a huge Cabot fan, it occured to me the other day I've barely scraped the pink fairy floss barrel that is Meg Cabot books. I've just always read the same ones over and over again! The 'Boy' series (I call them the Email series! OMG, I love me the Email series!! I'm gonna go out on a Meg Cabot obsessed limb here and declare these Email books are my favourite books in existence!! I love them that much!!), the Queen of Babble first book (only just recently finally read the second Babble book, and, soon as I finish my MC drool fest, I am picking up the third and final Queen Babble book), and She Went All The Way.

So, after coming to the conclusion it makes no sense to love this author's books so much yet I only read the same ones over and over, I've made my new goal in life to read her entire backlist. The first The Princess Diaries book the first in my new purpose for living.

And it did not disappoint. Her trademark humour is there, and her cute, goofy but loveable starring lady, and the hot nice male lead (who is always, in each book, THE most adorable guy. I love her male leads.).

I read reviews for some MC books that stated, for her kids books, she has way too much sexcapades and adult themes...I totally disagree!! Apart from my immediate protectiveness for the Reigning Queen of Romantic Comedy, as a parent I feel her kids books (okay, the ONE kids books of hers I've read, this one) had the right amount of realism regarding sex, drugs and other teenage issues. She does the right thing, mentioning these things and making sure a subtle message of drugs are bad, etc., by making the characters who do drink or do drugs unlikable idiots. A kid is supposed to read this book and go ok, I'm a cool, independant person for not doing drugs, meanwhile you're kind of a loser if you are drinking every Saturday night. I applaud how she handles child and teenage issues.

As a 34 year old mum, I am too old to be reading The Princess Diaries series...but I don't care!! I really loved this book. I am so glad I've begun this Meg Cabot readfest. OMG, I'm so excited about it!!

I've already ordered online the next two Princess books, and Abandon, and Jinx...

This book was a bit silly and fluffy but 9th grade girls - Mia Thermopolis(the protagonist) was in 9th grade - are often silly and fluffy. I didn't care much about the learning to be princess part of the book but the book did a good job of showing the angst and drama of girls that age. ...more
