Even though I said I would never read The Lovely Bones, having watched and cried during the film, I somehow ended up prowling through it. And I’m glad I did. Yes, it is a heart-wrenchingly sad book. It is about death, about losing someone who you could never imagine life without, in the most brutal way possible. But it is so beautiful as well.

This book was utterly disturbing, but I found myself deeply unsettled after reading any of Sebold's books. There is something about the way she describes the characters that makes them feel so real to the reader...you feel their fear, sadness and confusion. As much as I can swear up and down that I'm too freaked out to read this story again, I couldn't put it down. It was like a train wreck; you want to look away but you can't tear your eyes from it.
