I worked my way through this book slowly. It sat by my beside - mostly on the floor, along with other texts 'in-the-process-of-being-read'.
It was ridiculous story, but one I couldn't stop reading. I'd go through 4 or 5 pages of 'large print', then put it down thinking - oh, I gotta' take that back to the library; that's too ridiculous.
But I couldn't turn my back on it. Especially once the story progressed to Thursday actually being with Jane Eyre's characters. And I had to see the good guys tak ...more

I liked this book. It was quirky, clever, funny, and entertaining. It is not a particularly gripping book, but rather one that is perfect for taking you away from reality. I think the concept is brilliant, and Fforde does a wonderful job inserting references to classic literature, jokes, history, or history gone wrong. Really amazing book! I don't think I've ever read anything quite like it, that's part alternate history and part science-fiction, but what I really loved about it was how it was a tribute to books and reading. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classics (if not THE favorite classic, for me), and I love how this book brought a renewed romanticism to the love story between Jane and Rochester.
