Did not realize this was book 2 of a series until I started reading it. So the first couple of chapters were a bit confusing while I was playing catch-up.

Once I got caught up I devoured this book. I really enjoy Bernard Cornwell's works and this was no exception. I'm really looking forward to reading more in the Alfred series. 9th century Britain rocks!

EDIT: Re-read after reading the first novel. Still love it! Onto book 3 now. ...more
