The book tended to move slow for a mystery novel and seemed more about showing off how smart the character is than spending the time on plot development. Many reviewers found the main character too precocious for her age, which i did not find to be the case. There are many instances in the book where her age becomes apparent in her thinking and actions, she's just a smart kid. I spent over a week reading this book -- much, much longer than I usually spend on a mystery. I had a hard time getting into the story and I wasn't immediately drawn to the main character. She grew on me some by the end, but was a bit unbelievable. Of course, that may be because I am not into science and cannot imagine anyone knowing that much about chemistry at such a young age. I will probably not make an effort to read any of the other books in the series.

A very nice mystery series which takes place in the early 1950's England. We meet 11 year old Flavia de Luce who has a penchant for poisons and chemistry. She loves crime & dead bodies...an excellent series of books.
