3.5, actually. This was a lot of fun and well-written.
9/8/16 - I've recently been listening to this series and I am thoroughly enjoying them. I've seen a lot of reviews saying that Flavia is too precocious to be believable, but I've always enjoyed books about kids who have a lot going on in their brains. In my experience, children are aware of far more than anyone gives them credit for anyway.
I've grown to enjoy the voice of the audiobook narrator, but I think it would be grating to some.

This was a really fun book. I thought Flavia was an awesome narrator, though I do feel I wouldn't like her so much if I had met her for real. Maybe because I'd be afraid that she'd try some chemistry experiment on me, like with her sister Ophelia. The poison oak in her lipstick was such a mean trick! LOL
Well, anyway, I liked the whole mystery story, though I do wish that the author had written it so that the readers could have had a chance to figure out who the murderer was for themselves (like ...more

I love literary mysteries! Flavia is a great character. She is so precocious, but she's still a kid.

I read it because of the great reviews, but it was just okay. Wasn't a real page-turner, but a somewhat interesting mystery none-the-less.

3.5 stars. Flavia is certainly a plucky little 11 year old and I love that she is a chemistry savant. 3.5 stars because I just could not get into the story (not sure if that was my fault or the story's fault). I will definitely be reading the 2nd book, though.
