I am finding this a tough book to rate and review.
The plot is long and at times very tedious. Tartt can create sentences that run on for most of a page. That is the bad part of the book.
But her characters - she brings them to life. Theo and his mother came alive for me. Theo's father, Xandra and Boris were all characters that gave me the shudders. They were all too real and all too much of bad influences.
I kept thinking Tartt could tell this same story in a much better way, a way that streaml ...more

I was sorry when the last audio disk ended. I put down the earphones and knew that I'd 'read' a good book.
My favourite character of them all? Of course ... BORIS! He was incredibly humorous. I loved the Russian accent.
I have absolute no nits with this book - gave it a 5.

This was such a long book which could haven been abbreviated to about half. I have to admit the first 200 pages (6 CDs) were such a torture that I almost gave up on the book 3 times. However; I am glad I stocked to it and listen to the rest of the book.
