I really enjoy the way Murakami writes and like his characters (even the whiny ones), but there wasn't a lot of story going on here. I felt it sort of fizzled out at the end, the big reveal was just stupid and selfish, and Tsukuru resolves (doesn't DO, mind you, only resolves) to be less passive. Now this book could have been longer (unlike 1Q84 which needed to be cut by 400 pages) to show us whether or not all of the stuff Tsukuru thought and did ultimately had any lasting impact on his life.

This could have been any book that falls under the heading of young peoples' romance. BUt coming from Murakami, it was a bowl of oranges made to look like some exotic fruit brought home from the tropics.
I don't write reviews - never really got the hang of it, so I'll just leave that for the others to create.
