Well this story really does show the grittier side to India and I think thats what I liked about it. The relationship between Balram and his employer was very interesting, the fact that he was almost part of the family rather than a servant. I enjoyed the way it was a confession of a murder written in the form of letters but rather than being the what happens after the murder it is all about the build up and why it was committed and even then I can understand why he did it.

A great example of modern fiction. Simply written yet profound. Laced with insightful comments and nice deft introspective touches. A little crass in places but a brilliant debut

Having just finished up Between the Assassinations, I avidly began The White Tiger. It is everything I expected it to be and I am enjoying it immensely.

I've had to mark it as being 'read' here, so I could put my two cents worth in before finishing, but now that I've done so, I can change the status back to 'currently reading'.

OK - so I'm a cheater - so bite me!
