I wasn't sure about this book to start with, it seemed a bit odd, a penniless family living in a run down castle. And for a long time I couldn't work how old Cassandra was, she comes across as being much younger than 17. But maybe that's the point of the book you can see that she has grow to make a hard decision at the end. It was kind of left open for a second book, and it would have been nice to find out what happened after. The dad was the only character that I could not get my head around. I

Ladies & Literature has this up for a read.
I know I completed this, on audio, at some time, and as I recall I didn't really like it.
To be fair, I would be willing to give it another shot - maybe in text form this time. I think it was the reader that bothered me - I've never liked that 'exact-on-the-syllables' style that some English readers use, and I really do not care for the precocious little girl thing. I don't like smart-alexes, especially little ones.
